Beans are nitrogen fixers. But besides being good for the soil they are also part of healthy diet:
- Beans are a good source of protein. Protein is an essential nutrient that is necessary for the growth, repair, and maintenance of cells in the body. Beans are a plant-based source of protein, making them a good option for people who follow vegetarian or vegan diets.
- Beans are high in fiber. Fiber is a type of carbohydrate that cannot be broken down by the body, and it is important for maintaining a healthy digestive system. Beans are a good source of both soluble and insoluble fiber, which can help to promote regular bowel movements and prevent constipation.
- Beans are low in fat. Most beans are low in fat, making them a healthy option for people who are trying to manage their weight or reduce their intake of saturated fats
Besides that beans are versatile and easy to use. They can be used in a variety of dishes, including soups, stews, salads, and casseroles. They can also be pureed to make dips or spreads, or mashed to make veggie burgers or other plant-based protein sources. Another good bland based protein source are peas.
Beans should be stored in a cool, dry place.
