Happy new year 2017! The new year has started with beautiful, cold weather and lots of plans for the next year!
Lingonberries (Vaccinum vitis idaea), also known as cowberries, are a type of small, tart red fruit that is native to northern parts of Europe and Asia. They are similar in size and shape to cranberries, but have a brighter red color and a more tart, acidic flavor. Lingonberries grow on low-lying shrubs, and are often found in forested areas and wetlands.
Lingonberries are a good source of antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals, and are often used in traditional medicine to help treat a variety of ailments. They are also a popular food in many parts of the world, and are often used to make jams, jellies, and other preserves products. Lingonberries can also be eaten fresh, and are often served with meats, such as venison or pork, or used to make sauces or other condiments.
In addition to their culinary and medicinal uses, lingonberries are also an important food source for many types of wildlife, including birds, bears, and other animals. They are also grown commercially in some parts of the world, and are often sold fresh or frozen, or processed into other products.
We have some Lingonberries in the forest, but more is at the forest close by.
